A preloved sofa doesn't need to look preloved. With the right approach to the frame, cushions and fabric, a secondhand piece can look and feel genuinely like new — often at a fraction of retail price. Here's how.
Start with a full deep clean
Before anything else, a proper deep clean (following the fabric's cleaning code) lifts years of general use out of the fibres. This alone makes the biggest visible difference of any single step — most "tired" looking sofas are actually just dirty, not damaged.
Revive the cushions
Sagging or lumpy cushions are usually a filling problem, not a fabric one. Foam inserts can be replaced or topped up relatively cheaply, and feather cushions just need regular plumping and occasional re-fluffing of the filling to redistribute it evenly. This single fix transforms how a sofa feels to sit on.
Check and tighten the frame
A wobble or creak is almost always a loose joint or worn webbing underneath, not a sign the sofa's at the end of its life. Tightening screws and replacing sagging webbing straps is straightforward and restores proper support.
Address fading and wear patches
Sun fading on arms and cushion tops is common on older sofas. Rotating reversible cushions evens this out going forward, and a fabric-safe colour restorer can help even out patches on the arms where fading is heaviest.
Finish with fabric protection
Once everything's clean and repaired, a fabric protector spray gives it a head start against future stains — the same step new sofas often get treated with in the showroom before sale.
Or skip the work entirely
This is exactly the process every sofa goes through before it's listed at Revived Sofas — deep cleaned, cushions restored, frame checked, and fabric protected, so you get the preloved price without the preloved work. Have a look through our current range of fully refurbished sofas.
