Prime Big Deal Days runs 6–7 October 2026 — 48 hours, Prime members only. Most coverage tells you what to buy. This one tells you what to walk past, because roughly half of what gets badged as a deal that week isn't one.
How to Tell a Real Discount From Theatre
The single most useful habit: check the price history before you check the percentage. A price tracker extension shows you what the item actually cost over the past six months, and you'll find plenty of "40% off" items that were cheaper in July.
Three patterns worth knowing:
- The crept-up RRP. Price rises quietly through September, then drops back to its normal level on the day with a big red badge on it. Nothing has changed except the sticker.
- The permanent sale. Some listings have carried a discount badge continuously for months. If it's always on offer, the offer isn't the reason to buy.
- The model you've never heard of. A brand-new listing from an unfamiliar brand with a handful of reviews and an enormous discount. Sometimes fine, often not. There's no price history to check, which is the point.
Categories That Rarely Justify the Wait
Anything you need this week. Obvious, but worth saying. If your vacuum has died, the saving on waiting three weeks is smaller than three weeks of living with it.
Everyday consumables. Washing powder, batteries, coffee pods. The Subscribe and Save price is usually within a few percent of the event price all year round.
Large furniture. October is not the furniture month. The deeper cuts land in Black Friday week and again in the January sales, because that's when the showrooms are competing. If you're buying a sofa or a bed frame, note the October price and compare it in November — don't buy on day one.
Anything where the deal is a bundle. Bundled accessories inflate the perceived value. Price the main item on its own first.
Two Things That Genuinely Are Worth the October Window
Not everything is theatre. Two categories consistently behave well in October, for structural reasons rather than marketing ones.
Projectors. A crowded market with lots of competing brands and no strong seasonal demand until Christmas — which means October is when they compete on price to get ahead of the Christmas rush. It's also the point in the year when British evenings get dark early enough to actually use one.
WiMiUS K14 4K Home Cinema Projector
We Recommend: 5/5 — the 225° adjustable stand is the feature that earns its keep, letting you throw the picture onto a wall or the ceiling without mounting anything. Worth setting a price alert on ahead of the event rather than buying blind on the day.

Check Today's Price on Amazon UK →Bulky pet furniture. Cat trees and similar are expensive for Amazon to warehouse and ship, so they get pushed hard in clearance events. It's one of the few genuinely bulky categories where October beats November.
Feandrea 165cm Cat Tree Tower
We Recommend: 5/5 — the height and base stability that gets a tower actually used rather than ignored, which is the whole difference between solving sofa scratching and just buying furniture.

6–7 October — Prime Big Deal Days. Best for mid-priced household goods, pet gear, and anything Amazon wants clear before Christmas.
Week of 20 November — Black Friday week begins. Where the big-ticket cuts start.
27 November — Black Friday. Furniture, TVs, appliances.
30 November — Cyber Monday. Tech and anything left over.
The honest rule: if it's over a few hundred pounds, note the October price and wait for November. If it's mid-priced and bulky, October is usually your window.
Honest Verdict
Go in with a list written before the event starts, not during it. The entire design of a 48-hour sale is to make you buy things you hadn't thought about that morning, and a countdown timer is very good at that. Anything you'd have bought anyway at that price is a win. Anything you're buying because the badge is red is not.
Check the price history, ignore the percentage, and be prepared to walk away with nothing.
